The Porsche 963 LMDh is a testament to Porsche’s return to top-tier endurance racing, developed in collaboration with Team Penske to compete in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) and the North American IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. At the 2024 24 Hours of Le Mans, French driver Kévin Estre captured pole position in the No. 6 Porsche Penske 963, alongside teammates André Lotterer of Germany and Laurens Vanthoor of Belgium. The car later achieved victory at the Fuji 6 Hours, solidifying its position as a formidable contender in the endurance racing scene.

The Porsche 963 (Type 9R0) is an LMDh (Le Mans Daytona hybrid) sports prototype racing car, which is a fancy way of saying it’s a rolling science experiment designed to go very fast and look very good doing it. Built by Porsche and engineered by Multimatic, it competes in the Hypercar class of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) and the GTP (Grand Touring Prototype) class of the IMSA SportsCar Championship. And its name? A cheeky nod to the legendary Porsche 956 and 962 from the 1980s.
